  • Estimate for MARS MVC Voltage Monitoring Device:  Short answer: 15 man days for TM, $1500 budget
        Breakdown on estimate:
  • 3 to 5 days making stuff, 5 to 7 days coding, 5 days testing and dealing with 'challenges'
  • Details (Thoms note to self) - based on reading Alcatel spec and discussion with Alcatel engineer
    • Create small dev board with spi bus A/D device (tlc2543).   Hand wire (half day) by Jose's team (A/D converter, plus voltage regulator, plus some resistors or pots on the inputs, plus bypass.
    • Purchase ($500) and Modify USB to SPI bus converter per Alcatel instructions for debug/diagnostic/development tool ( http://www.jovasolutions.com/tims-0102-usb-to-i2cspi )
    • Spec out and buy a microcontroller ($400) with Ethernet and SPI capabilities (LanTronix, Stellaris, etc).   Software dev environment might be extra ($500??)   Plan also for buying a spare ($200).
    • Write microcontroller driver to read multi-channel A/D on dev board via SPI
    • Write microprocessor application to provide Ethernet socket access to the A/D converter on dev board.   Write simple linux code to exercise socket
    • Add circuit to boost SPI bus voltage for compatibility with MVC -see page 19 of the Alcatel spec for the schematic of opto-isolated 12v level SPI bus to TIMS-0102 USBtoSPI.
    • Test with MVC and some form of Rich Schramms top side app (will need help from Ken Heller, possibly Alcatel hooking up MVC).
